Steve and I wondered down to Harrys to try out their new breakfast menu on Tuesday. We arrived pretty late.. 11.25am to be exact and service finishes at 11.30am. I asked if we were in time and after a quick consultation with the chef our waitress said, “absolutely…. take a seat!”
We sat and perused over the breakfast menu for a few minutes and discussed what we fancied. I was automatically drawn to the avocado smash and Steve wanted “The Works”. A full English with bacon, black pudding, sausage, egg, mushroom, tomato, baked beans and toast…. i.e The Works!
The avocado smash was dreamy. Perfectly ripe, bright green avocado smooshed up with a hint of citrus piled on top of some chargrilled sourdough. On the side were a few little cherry tomatoes on the vine that had been roasted off slightly. It was perfect to be honest. I couldn’t fault it. Perfectly seasoned and a generous portion too. Just what I needed on a chilly (not quite) spring morning.
Steve was making the good noises he makes when he finds something delicious. He said the quality of the produce was noticeable. Everything was cooked just right and piping hot… A runny yolk for the egg so he could dip his toast. He was a happy chappy.
To drink I had a Luscombe orange juice and a breakfast tea. Steve an americano. Being a massive tea drinker I would have preferred a little pot to have a top up but that can be my only criticism if you can call it that.
The service was great. Polite and friendly as always. The ambience is always pleasurable whether its busy or not so busy. On this occasion we were one of three tables which is pretty quiet compared to Harrys in the evenings which is always rammed. Yet still you feel comfortable.
Breakfasts range from £3.00 for a breakfast roll up to £9.50 for “The Works”. Drinks start from £1.50 to £4.50 if you fancy a thick shake. Most breakfasts would come in at approximately £10.00 with a drink. A reasonable price if you were having a special breakfast/brunch out with friends. I need to create a date to go back because I need that avocado smash in my life again soon! Next time I might customise with an oozing poached egg over the top. Or perhaps some salty smoked salmon! Mmmm.. My mouth is watering!
Breakfast is served 7 days a week from 9am to 11.30am. Pop down to Harrys and give it a whirl. I don’t think you will be disappointed!
