Date Night with Firezza

Date Night with Firezza

Anyone who knows me can vouch for my love of all things Italian. It’s my go to holiday destination as well as cuisine when I am cooking up a storm in Tara’s Busy Kitchen. I love the weather, the culture, the history, the people and of course eating the delicious edibles they have on offer.

This year Steve and I are holidaying in Sardinia. A relatively untouched and unspoilt Italian island nestled in the Tyrrhenian Sea just to the left of mainland Italy. Here I hope to soak up the culture, sunshine and cuisine.

In traditional “date night” form I didn’t want to cook. Don’t get me wrong I love to cook but fancied a night off this time. The weather was great so Steve and I set up camp in our beautiful bijou courtyard garden. We decided that we were going to order in pizza to stimulate our taste buds in readiness for our holiday. I always feel my courtyard resembles Italian verandas and gardens so it was the perfect setting.

We had heard of a place called Firezza that delivers pizzas that are crafted with passion, are hand-stretched and fire baked in the traditional Neapolitan style. Now admittedly Naples isn’t near Sardinia but the vibe was just what we were after. Fresh ingredients made into pizza with flair. Perfect for date night sharing in our Italian inspired courtyard surroundings.

The Firezza brand was established in 2001 and now has 18 branches in London and further branches in Exeter, Tunbridge Wells, Milton Keynes, Staines and Reading, with more launching soon. Firezza offers a small, but perfectly formed menu of pizza favourites, sides and desserts. Customers can also customise their pizza to choose vegan or gluten free options; add toppings from a wide selection to any pizza; or design a unique “Create Your Own” pizza.

Ordering was easy and you can do it online or by telephone. We ordered one custom pizza with anchovies, olives and mushrooms and Verde Ortolana which was covered in roasted courgette, aubergines and peppers. To have alongside we chose the rocket salad and Focaccia di Bufala which was a mini pizza topped with rosemary, salted anchovies and pancetta. A glorified garlic bread if you will.

We asked for our pizzas to be delivered at 7.30pm and they arrived on the dot. Piping hot and smelling divine. We couldn’t wait to tuck in. The pizzas were topped generously and the bases were traditional and crispy. You could tell that they had been cooked in a proper pizza oven. Both Steve and I were in seventh heaven as we tucked in. The custom pizza with anchovies was particularly good as was the Foccacia Di Bufala. The rosemary and buffalo mozerella lifted the flavour to the next level. The salad was fresh and peppery as rocket should be with plenty of sun blushed tomatoes and grated Parmesan. The whole meal was very good. Of course not being seasoned take away orderers we picked too much but what’s better than left over pizza for breakfast the next day?

I would highly recommend Firezza if you fancy a night off from cooking and a jolly good feed. The quality was exceptional and I would certainly pick them ahead of other pizza delivery services in the Exeter area. What’s more they have vegan and gluten free options available which I think is great having both vegan and gluten free friends.

You can find Firezza at 47/48 Sidwell Street, Exeter or click on the website and find your nearest branch by entering your postcode.
