AD Cheers to the weekend. Being someone who likes an excuse to dress up and experience terrace life as often as possible I jumped at the chance to invite my friend Alex over for cocktails when a delightful package from @salcombegin landed on my doorstep. Salcombe Gin have released an exclusive ‘Seamist’ for their Rosé Sainte Marie gin. Distilled a mere stones throw away from me in Salcombe at one of the worlds only distilleries accessible by boat this unique liquid garnish has been handcrafted using olive, coastal botanicals and Cornish sea salt. The aim is to elevate your gin and tonic and evoke the flavours of the Mediterranean coast.

For the ultimate ‘Rosé Seamist’ simply pour one large measure of Salcombe Gin ‘Rosé Sainte Marie’ over plenty of ice, add three parts premium Indian tonic water, a twist of lemon peel and a slice of strawberry. Stir gently and finish with two or three sprays of ‘Seamist’ over the top of the glass. Simply dreamy! Swipe to see my Rosé & Tonic. 💕

Who doesn’t love chocolate? This dark chocolate

Who doesn’t love chocolate? This dark chocolate mousse is so simple to make with only 3 ingredients. Difficult to believe but true. Make it for an impromptu dinner party or just because it’s the weekend and you love chocolate.🤎 You will need 6 egg whites, 2 tablespoons of golden caster sugar and 150g dark chocolate 70% minimum.

-Melt chocolate carefully in a bowl over simmering water. Don’t let the bowl touch the water though as it will split. Alternatively microwave in 30 second blasts until melted.
-Whisk the egg whites to soft peaks and then add the sugar and whisk again until combined.
-Dollop one big spoonful of chocolate into the egg whites and beat vigorously together until combined.
-Add the rest of the chocolate and fold in.
-Spoon into pretty cups, glasses or bowls and chill until serving.
-Decorate as you wish with sprinkles, edible glitter or grated chocolate.

AD If you are looking for an easy eating option this weekend then give @easyeatsexeter a try. I ordered from them last weekend using their handy app and can honestly say that I was impressed with the service, the quality and the flavour. I ordered the sweet potato madras, one of the many vegan options, and my friend Serena went all out with a fully loaded cheeseburger and fries.

I have to say I am not much of a takeaway girl being a bit of a home cook myself but every now and then it is so nice to have something made for you and delivered. The food arrived piping hot which made me extremely happy. A pet-peeve of mine is a lukewarm takeaway as reheating is not an option in a microwave free kitchen. (If you watch the video closely you will see the steam!! 💨)

Did you know it’s Libraries Week this week and we have an awesome library here in Exeter? Free entertainment for all ages and my go to for cookbooks and murder mysteries. I visit regularly to find inspiration in the kitchen and as a place to find calm in this sometimes crazy world. The staff are always present, friendly and helpful which is great and they will help you find a book either on foot or search it out on their computers. You can reserve a book that way too if it’s out on loan which is super. I have done that a number of times with new cookbook releases. The last time with the latest Nigella & I wasn’t disappointed. It’s an amazing book just in case you are on the lookout for something to borrow from your local library. At the moment @exeter.library have a great selection of books celebrating #blackhistorymonth as well as a display telling the story of the Pankhurst sisters and the UK suffragette movement. Hopefully this little post (scroll for a video of my visit) will spur you on to visit your local library this #librariesweek 📚

Talk about being in the right place at the right time. I walked into @cakeordeathldn to get myself a hot chocolate on Friday just as Katie was about to photograph the new Halloween brownies. She half joked “you’re good at taking photos fancy doing this for me?” not expecting me to jump at the chance of taking a few snaps for her. A few moments of my time helping out and I walked home feeling like my day off had been helpful & productive. You know, it’s a great feeling doing something for someone else, especially when it’s really appreciated. I love being helpful when I can plus because I had man-handled the brownies I got to take them home with me and try them before anyone else. As always they hit the sweet spot (excuse the pun) in all their marshmallowy, biscuity goodness. Fun fact for you - all the marshmallows are vegan and handmade in the bakery plus the chocolate skulls, bats and pumpkins that adorn the brownies are made in-house too. So, when you bite into one of these bad boys at halloween you will appreciate the effort and time that has gone into making them. 🎃🦇💀
