Let Them Eat Cake

Let Them Eat Cake

Let Them Eat CakeI am not going to lie. My love of a well baked cake or scone is well documented. I am partial to a Devonshire cream tea and I adore a strong pot of tea alongside a great sponge. It was during one of my cake eating moments that the idea of “Let Them Eat Cake” came to me.

I have so many friends that are fabulous bakers that I thought a Sunday morning get together over coffee and cake would be well attended. My friends Karin and Janis own and run Berloni Kitchens in Princesshay and had offered to be my venue. Such a great idea to have my “cake fest” in a kitchen. People always hover in kitchens at parties don’t they?

My guests arrived at 10am carrying freshly baked cakes, cookies and sweet treats that were displayed on the kitchen counter in the centre of the shop so we could gather around and take in the glory of the decorations. Many photos were taken as they were all so beautifully presented. Some real thought and time had gone into the planning. There seemed to be a theme although none was set. Lots of floral flavours in the form of rose, rosemary and lavender alongside traditional scones, French Madeleine’s, chocolate and lemon drizzle cakes. There was even a wonderful bakewell tart inspired gateaux and a passion fruit cheesecake.

It really was a cake lovers heaven as we tucked in and sampled the delights. Recipes and methods swapped and abundant conversation ensued alongside the seed of ideas planted for the next one. There has to be another. It was the perfect way to start a sunny Sunday.

Let me know if you would be interested in joining in on the next one. I would love to hear from you.
