Here’s to a lazy long weekend. I have no idea what lies ahead. I have no specific plans apart from teaching a few online classes here and there.. it kind of feels liberating. Normally a bank holiday has pressure alongside it to have a good time particularly with it being generally a much needed extra day off but this year it’s so, so different. I love this ‘no pressure’ way of life I have fallen in to.. I have already superseded all my own expectations with the way I have adapted to this new way of life. 9 weeks ago I thought my world was ending but in fact it’s only just beginning. 🖤

Cake, a socially distant visit from a friend, a walk in my favourite spot and a fish and chip supper = a pretty great lockdown birthday. I had no idea how I would feel, but you know what it was cool. I ate cake for breakfast, taught a few Zoom ballet classes and just felt pretty loved all day. The amount of cards delivered, Zoom calls and well wishes via socials were in all honesty quite overwhelming after eight full weeks of being a bit of a loner. A Birthday in lockdown isn’t half bad if you are with the people & animals you love and the sun is shining. .

Iced buns = uncomplicated sweetness. When you get given a treat like this for your birthday complete with multicoloured sprinkles you know there is a god. (Or a lush friend in Sidmouth who knew my stepdad was driving by & took time out of her busy life to think of me!) Thank you @rebeccaburdus for getting me birthday sprinkles and adding to my immense birthday sugar high. I seriously can’t thank my buddies enough for thinking of me.. I actually ended up with two birthday cakes delivered and a sprinkle covered iced bun! @serenaf66 made a dreamy raspberry & rose sponge and @dismo.87 made a tropical ginger cake with ginger butter cream.. You gals made my little lockdown birthday a charm. Thank you so much. 👯‍♀️

A massive thank you to all those who baked for me today, those who got me sprinkles by hook or by crook, those who made my day a whole lot better than I thought a lockdown birthday could be, those who sent me birthday cards and birthday wishes via socials, my students for sending good vibes through Zoom, Steve for providing me with good wine and sustenance that wasn’t cake & Prince from beyond the grave for releasing the live Prince & The Revolution 1985 concert video on YouTube and the playlist on Spotify! My first socially distant date in the great outdoo

My first socially distant date in the great outdoors (or anywhere for that matter) for 8.5 weeks. Hot chocolate with my buddy on a rather chilly but sunny morning perched at the back of the museum in their outdoor space. Of course the museum was shut but that didn’t matter. What was important was we were able to see each other without the worry of bumping into anyone else. We gossiped and giggled our way through an hour and a half from 2 metres away and it was great. . Lord, how I have missed this. I will never, ever take these tiny things for granted again. #simplepleasures .

This is what we do now.. Steve and I sit outside on the kerb on a sunny evening and share a drink before dinner. My street is virtually empty bar one other family as we live in a very student heavy area. It’s been great just hanging out where the sun is. Our little courtyard gets a bit chilly come evening time which is sad as it’s far, far prettier than the double yellows.💛

Happy #britishcheeseweekender from me and my cheese board. In all honesty there is rarely a time when I don’t have British cheese in my fridge. I am a firm believer in buying local where possible be it cheese, wine, veg, toiletries or clothing. We have to support what’s close to us otherwise it won’t be there when we really need it. You know, it’s kind of like your friends. You love and support them through good and bad times and they in turn will be there when you need a little lift at a later point. Yes, I am comparing my friends to cheese but my friends also know how much I love cheese so it’s all ok! 😅What cheeses have you been eating this weekend? For me, I am working my way through my @quickescheese British cheese weekender box and the last of the wheel of @sharphamcheese Brie - on my cheeseboard here I have @alexjameshq No2 Blue Monday and @nettlebedcheese Bix. Both delicious in very different ways and always served with @petersyard crackers. .
