Tara’s Busy Kitchen Presents #6

Tara's Busy Kitchen presents

My tea parties just keep getting better and better! I am so proud of my achievements and really enjoy sharing my love of entertaining with my guests.

My 6th Tara’s Busy Kitchen Presents Afternoon Tea was held a week or so ago on the most beautifully warm early spring day. I threw open the patio doors and let the warmth of the sunshine flood in to my pop up tea room. White table cloths, vintage china and flatware set the tone for my tea party.

Twelve friends old and new descended on Tara’s Busy Kitchen HQ for a deliciously indulgent afternoon tea showcasing the wonderful local produce we have here in the southwest. Ginormous scones served with lashings of clotted cream and the most delicious jams from Clare’s Preserves were served alongside an aromatic tea loaf infused with the flavours of the east in the form of rose and bergamot tea from Steenbergs. If that wasn’t enough I served one of my most popular tea time cakes. An almond and orange cake that was inspired by a wonderful local cook, Charlotte Lampard. There were jam tarts and the most dainty macarons to top off the treats plus plenty of savouries for those without a sweet tooth!

Sharpham Vineyard were on hand as always to provide their delicious Sparkling Pink. The beautiful peach hued fizz tastes sublime and is made only a few miles down the road in a small village just outside Totnes. For the t-totalers, Heron Valley elderflower cordial was served as well as pots and pots of delicious Devonshire tea.

I was thinking that this tea party might be my last for a while but having such positive feedback has left me feeling inspired to plan my next. I think perhaps a high summer  tea party might be on the cards so watch this space.

I would like to say a special thank you to Cakeadoodledo, Devonshire Tea and Black Tor Brewery for kindly donating ingredients for my guest goodie bags.

As always I like to include a few testimonials from my guests. So thank you Owen and Heidi Mclauglin firstly for coming and secondly for the fab feedback.

“We visited TBK for afternoon tea on Sunday and had an outstanding experience with wonderful food and a great environment. From the moment we arrived we felt welcome and had the impression nothing was going to be too much trouble and that nothing would be missing – we were not disappointed! The food had all been prepared using local suppliers and to say there was plenty would be an understatement. The savouries were beautifully created with a selection suitable for everyone whilst the cakes and sweet items were amazing. Wonderful homemade cakes and scones with fabulous locally made jam and of course clotted cream. A selection of teas and sparkling wine rounded off a truly memorable experience and one that we will definitely repeat and do again – soon!

Thanks TBK for a lovely afternoon!”

Secondly to Victoria Russell for being so kind.

‘Having heard so much about Tara’s afternoon tea from a friend, I was finally able to attend her sixth event at the weekend. From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed into her beautiful home and it was immediately clear that Tara’s heart and soul is reflected in every little detail, from the scones to the sandwiches, the tea loaf to the tarts, the crockery to the cordial, and the macarons to the music. Aside from the delicious food and drink, what undeniably sets this experience apart is Tara herself; her warmth as a host and the little touches she employs ignite a feeling of individuality and homeliness. She went above and beyond to ensure that everyone left with a full stomach and a smile on their face.’

  1. Fabulous feedback, sounds like everyone had a fantastic time! Does this surprise me – not in the least – Tara is a very warm-hearted lady with a passion for the finer detail and genius at going the extra mile, but not when it comes to the produce, which she remains steadfast in sourcing locally.
