My Week In Pictures 20/16

My week in pictures

I held a little party on Saturday celebrating Tara’s Busy Kitchen’s first birthday. I also wanted to celebrate the wonderful produce on offer here in the South West too. All my guests were given the task of preparing a dish that uses local produce and bring it to my “pot luck” party. For a full write up read my blog post here. My contributions were a local cheese board with the most perfect selection of Quicke’s cheeses, Hillside crackers, Julie Scrumtious cheeseboard fruit cake and Clare’s Preserves chutney. My sweet contribution was a local rhubarb crumble. So yummy!

Once the blog’s birthday celebrations were over it was time to celebrate my own birthday. We spent the best part of Sunday morning walking around the quay and watching the marathon. We stopped off for an ice cream in the blissful sunshine.

From the quay it was back home for a late lunch but we couldn’t help but stop and sit on cathedral green for a while to soak up a few more rays of sunshine.

Steve and I returned to the quay for a pre-dinner drink at On The Waterfront later on that night. The weather was lovely so we were able to take a seat at the waters edge and enjoy our drinks.

We had dinner plans at my favourite pub. The Hour Glass never fails to impress me with their menu. I didn’t take any photos because I wanted to enjoy my birthday meal but the homemade taramasalata was AMAZING and I need to return to have that again. I had the squid and borlotti bean stew which I had for lunch a few weeks ago when i visited with Johanna and Steve. To read the review click here. Steve had the ham hock with mashed potato and a mustard sauce. For dessert we shared the cheesecake with prunes. Everything once again was top notch. I cannot recommend the Hour Glass enough. I need to get a date in the diary for another visit.

I woke up on my birthday pretty early as usual and waited for Steve to get up so we could go for breakfast at Harry’s. I absolutely love this family run restaurant. It’s situated close to my house which makes visiting pretty convenient. As I was teaching five hours of ballet from 3.30pm this was the highlight of my day. Steve had “The Works”.. A beautiful looking full english breakfast and I had the avocado smash. I know I always have this when I go but this time I had a side of smoked salmon. It was delicious as always. I washed my breakfast down with a sneaky Buck’s Fizz that had been a little treat from Sam. Thank you for that! It made the morning for me… Harrys is open for breakfast from 9am until 11.30 everyday. Read my review here from a previous visit and then get yourself down there for a good feed!

After brunch we walked into town and down to The Glorious Art House for a cup of tea in their beautiful courtyard garden. The elephant milk jug made me chuckle and was a welcome birthday guest at our table!

On Thursday Steve and I met up with my friend Amber and hopped on a bus to visit the Devon County Show. A yearly 3 day event that showcases all the great things that Devon has to offer. It is an agricultural show with great food tents serving up the best regional produce on offer. There are lots of events within the showground such as show jumping, sheep shearing and livestock competitions. It’s a great day out for family’s and people like us who have a passion for our regional produce and enjoy meeting like minded people. We spent the best part of six hours there wondering around the food tents, the animal enclosures and the craft tents. Time really does fly when you are having fun. We bumped into some familiar faces too and stopped for a chat. Louise from Louise’s Larder, Nick from Blueberry Brothers, Steve from Exe Coffee Roasters and Rebs from Luscombe Drinks. It was lovely meeting up with some new people too and having a good chinwag about their produce. I came home with a bag full of goodies obviously! The whole day was wonderful and there will be a full post to follow in the next few days. Despite the chilly weather and a few downpours it was a truely fun packed day. I look forward to next year.

My lovely friend Johanna gave me some goodies from her garden this week. A couple of leeks and some yummy spinach. I get super excited when I’m given home grown goodies. I made some yummy salads with the spinach and the leeks went into a pasta dish. Thank you Johanna!

I have a few exciting things in the diary for next week so pop back next week to see what I’ve been up too. If you want to see more then check out my Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat accounts.
