My Week In Pictures 23/17

An Afternoon at Dalwood Vineyard

Firstly, Happy Devon Day!! How are you celebrating? I, unfortunately am in Bristol but will be with a fellow Devonshire bumpkin so I am sure we will manage to celebrate somehow in our own way!

It’s been English Wine Week this week and I have done my best to celebrate by trying a few English wines. On Tuesday night my friend Serena came for supper. I made delicious bright green smashed pea bruschetta and a crunchy green salad. Serena supplied dessert in the form of a peach roulade.

I had visited Sharpham Vineyard a few weeks ago and picked up some fresh and fruity Whole Berry Rosé in preparation for tonight’s get together. Serena had visited Marks and Spencer’s to see what their offerings were in the English wine selection. Unfortunately there weren’t any local wines but she did find a Bacchus from Chapel Down Winery. We decided that the Bacchus would be great alongside the savouries and the rosé with dessert. We weren’t wrong. Both wines were very good. The Bacchus had a citrus acidity that worked well alongside our savoury options.

The Sharpham Whole Berry rosé was fruity with strawberry and peach notes. Less dry than the Bacchus and worked so well with dessert.

My friend Chantelle popped in for lunch during her break. She had requested I made my Ricotta Fritters for our date. She had seen them on my Instagram feed previously and was keen to try them for herself! I am planning to upload the recipe very soon as the recipe is too good not too! Watch this space…

Wednesday night was “date night”. With the weather being so good Steve and I decided to set up camp in our pretty city centre courtyard and order in pizza. Our take away option for the night was Firezza. Firezza make pizzas in the traditional Neapolitan style and they don’t dissapoint. Here are a few pictures to whet your whistle but keep your eyes peeled for a full post very soon.

On Thursday Steve and I hopped on a train to Honiton where we were met by Mike Huskins of Dalwood Vineyard. He then drove us to the pretty village of Dalwood and the namesake of the vineyard.

We spent a wonderful afternoon amongst the vines learning about the grape varieties, how they grow and the relatively short history of the vineyard amongst other things. All this whilst sampling the latest vintage in the beautiful sunshine and surroundings. A full post will follow soon as this wine is too good not to share with you all.

On Friday night I met up with my friend Amber for drinks and a few nibbles at Polpo. Polpo really is reminiscent of holidays past. Read my review of a previous visit here.

It’s been another fabulous week. The half term holiday from ballet has enabled me to meet up with friends for long overdue catch ups.

Next week I am taking a trip to Bristol to visit my friend Alex. I have plans to visit The Flat once more with Steve and dinner with friends. I can’t wait to share it all with you. Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram to keep up to date on my daily goings on. Have a fabulous week everyone.
