My Week In Pictures 43/17

A day on the Moors

I have spent most of my week back and forth to Dartmoor. I spent a day with my two friends, Chloe and Sarah exploring what Bovey Tracey has to offer on the foodie front. I will let you in to a little secret.. there is loads of foodie fun to be had! We had afternoon tea at The Edgemoor Hotel, visited Dartmoor Distillery to find out how the South West’s only whisky distillery operates with a tour and a tasting and finally a wine and cheese pairing talk with Jeremy from Wildmoor Fine Food and Drink.

I was back in Bovey Tracey a few days later to meet up with another friend for a short drive over the moors to The Rugglestone Inn at Widdecombe In The Moor. The Rugglestone is one of my all time favourite country pubs. A must visit if you want a rustic pub feel with open fires and great pub food. They have a fantastic local ale selection too if you like a pint!

On Tuesday I headed to Ashburton with Steve and our two friends Nick Hook and Harry Wild. Ashburton is another town nestled on the edge of the moors with a great foodie reputation. My main port of call was Jaded Palates. A fantastic wine merchants with a wonderful tasting room upstairs using WineEmotion techniques. The WineEmotion system allows businesses such as Jaded Palates to expand their wine choices by the glass, include premium wines and limit spoilage and wastage. The WineEmotion patented technology preserves an open bottle in perfect condition for up to 30 days.

I had discovered Jaded Palates previously on a trip to Ashburton to have tea and cake with a friend and instantly knew I wanted to feature them on Tara’s Busy Kitchen. An idea for a video was born when Gill, the proprietor suggested a visit for a tasting and said she welcomed customers bringing their own nibbles to have alongside. I loved this concept so got Nick Hook on board for his wonderful photography and filming skills. We filmed a short video showcasing the wonderful local produce available in the town and sampled wines to have alongside. Watch this space for a full blog post very soon.

On Friday I changed things up a bit and headed for the coast. Budleigh Salterton was my destination and I had a date with my chum Emma and the monthly Farmers’ Market. The weather was amazing. Blue skies and warmth from the sun made for a really pleasurable morning. Both Emma and I chatted to the stall holders and made purchases on the way. I was so taken with the passion oozing from the traders about the market that a full blog post will be winging its your way soon.

Don’t forget with Halloween approaching rapidly to make your way over to your nearest Chococo store. I picked up these smashing Dia Do Los Muertos (Day Of The Dead) goodies from the Gandy Street, Exeter branch. There are lots more to choose from too. The decorated white chocolate skull retails at £14.95 and the chocolate skull bar comes in at £7.50.

Have a fabulous week everyone. I am off to South Devon this weekend to visit a friend so I feel a trip to Riverford and The Almond Thief coming on. Next week I am back to teaching with the build up to our winter ballet exam session taking up a lot of my time. I guess you will just have to watch this space to see where I end up! Don’t forget Twitter and Instagram for more up to date daily goings on.
