Nature blows my mind. This was taken at about 7.30 am this morning. Everyday this expanse of sky greets me. I feel very fortunate.

Not your average honesty box situation. Normally honesty boxes are found for fruit, jam or marmalade although I did once find chillies which was completely wonderful and promptly went home and made @nigellalawson chilli jam! I definitely never expected to find teeny tiny quail eggs roadside. If anybody fancies 1/2 dozen quail eggs for £1.00 give me a shout and I can tell you where to look! 🥚

One thing I have noticed here in my new house is the light and the sunsets. If it’s not that gorgeous autumnal golden glow coming in through the window it’s the crazy sunsets. Sometimes the sky literally looks like flames and a photograph could never do it justice. I feel so fortunate to be able to witness this natural beauty everyday. Swipe left to see tonight’s sunset. I swear on my heart I didn’t use a filter.💥

Socially distanced tea dates on park benches are the norm these days aren’t they? I actually really love them providing it’s not damp under bottom. In fact I tend to carry a little carrier bag with me at all times that I can perch on when needed! 🛍 Soggy bottoms are not good! This is me last week after receiving a teeny tiny baby plant from my friend @thewhimsythrift as a house warming gift during our park bench tea date. It’s the cutest little thing, now thriving in a spot next to a photo of my late Grandpa. Thank you Emma it is simply perfect. 🌱

May I introduce to you @meandeast - my favourite store for gifting, be that a little treat for myself or others. Chloe, the owner has a love for things handmade which brings a unique twist to her store. No two things are the same! How cool is that? Each bowl crafted on the potters wheel, each hand poured candle, each handmade piece of jewellery completely one of a kind. I can’t think of anything better than having something that is completely unique to me and that is why whenever I am in Totnes I pop my head in. Even if I don’t have a present to purchase I will inevitably leave with a couple of bars of the handmade soap that I adore.

You may be wondering why I am posting this. Well, after a conversation yesterday with a friend of mine who is also a small business owner about how unfair it is that big supermarkets can sell clothing, underwear, homewares and toys alongside their food items I am highlighting a few of my favourite independent shops and business that I am pretty sure would love your business this festive time and beyond. It doesn’t seem right that supermarkets are allowed to sell non essential items alongside food items. Items that would normally be at the back of the store have miraculously moved forward so you have to walk through them to get to your essential purchase, in other words food! This is having a direct effect on the small businesses that are unable to open and in my humble opinion completely unjust.

If we all took a moment to stop and think about where we make our purchases this year and put a few quid in the direction of a small business you will literally make their day. So, check out @meandeast , I guarantee you will find a perfect gift for your loved one. (or yourself!😉)

After a zoom chat this morning with my adult ballet ladies about how unjust it is that supermarkets can open and sell clothing, gifts, underwear because they fall in the category of essential services yet smaller independent businesses are left closed for the month of lockdown 2.0 I had to post this. It just seems so desperately unfair and leaves the friends of mine who own small businesses deservedly cheesed off and upset. The rules should be the same for everyone don’t you think? So, it was after that conversation that I was inspired to highlight my favourite independent businesses who can’t open their doors at the moment. They need our online support and @craneandkind is the first business that I want to showcase. A beautifully pink shop owned by a family of strong women who I adore and know that their business is built out of genuine love for the products they sell and the businesses they buy from. If you have any small people in your life that you want to buy for this Christmas then this is the shop that you need to visit either online right now or on foot when able. (Not an advertisement. Crane & Kind have never paid me to post. I don’t receive gifts or discounts in return for coverage or at all! I just love them & their ethos.💖)

Daily walks and new discoveries have been the highlight of my Lockdown 2.0 so far. It’s great to see so many new indies popping up despite the challenging times. This morning I took my stroll past @thepresshouseexeter to pick up a (trying to make them fashionable again!😌) cappuccino. I was welcomed so warmly into the cutest little space full to brimming with vintage & repurposed furniture, green plants and soft furnishings. Oh how I long to nestle by bottom in one of those delightfully squidgy looking armchairs. 🧡 For all my Exeter followers head on down Fore St and say “hello”.
