The Uprising Bakehouse is the newest addition to Exeter’s thriving independent coffee shop scene. Nestled comfortably between Leela, a shop selling ethical clothing, homewares and gifts and the wonderful Ben’s Farm shop on Magdalen Road. It is certainly keeping good company.
Not only is The Uprising Bakehouse a coffee shop, it’s an all-round foodie gem. With delicious sourdough baked at their other premises in Lyme Regis plus lots of cakes and pastries. There is plenty of choice for breakfast, brunch, lunch or afternoon tea.
I stopped by with my friend Angel one wet Wednesday afternoon and we were instantly sucked in by the delicious aromas emanating from their teeny tiny kitchen. Me being me had cake alongside my tea. The most exquisitely pink almond and rhubarb cake where Angel wanted something a little more substantial from the inspiring brunch menu. Mushrooms on toasted sourdough with perfectly poached eggs perched precariously on top was her choice alongside a flat white coffee.
We both tucked in with gusto leaving nothing. Surely a good sign. Since my inaugural visit with Angel I have been back twice. Another good sign! Go check it out for yourselves.
You will find Uprising Bakehouse at 59, Magdalen Road, Exeter, EX2 4TA.
