Almond Thief Bakery

My week in pictures

Last week, as a belated birthday treat, I was taken to The Almond Thief Bakery. Situated a stones throw from Dartington and a five minute drive from Totnes on a rather boring looking industrial park.

Thankfully what you get inside it’s far from boring. The sourdough bread is some of the best I’ve ever tasted and their cakes are to die for.

This was my first visit to the bakery. However I am very familiar with their produce as they have a small stall at the farmers market in Exeter every week. I quite often pick up my weekly loaf there if I’m about.

Chloe and I decided which coffees we were going to have whilst drooling over the cake selection. I went for a simple americano and Chloe had a creamy latte. As we were going out for lunch later we decided on sharing a slice of the almond brioche. The flavour was reminiscent of frangipane but with an orangey kick. I think marmalade was used in place of a raspberry jam. It was perfect in texture and flavour and I only wish that they would bring some of this with them to the farmers market! Another cake that caught my eye was the cardamom buns but sampling them will have to wait until next time.

When lunchtime arrives they offer a small menu of delicious sounding dishes like braised rabbit with slow cooked veggies or tomato and goats curd salad with a broad bean and herb salad. YUM!

I will aim to get back to The Almond Thief Bakery soon as I need to work my way through the menu!
