My Week In Pictures 23/16

The dance school that I teach for in Exeter had their bi-annual show last weekend which meant a lot of hard work. We had been rehearsing since Christmas and I had choreographed a number of dances. In between extra rehearsals and performances I managed to get out a couple of times and meet up with Steve. Our first meeting was at Cakeadoodledo. One of my favourite spots in Exeter. Especially when the weather is good and you can sit out in their wonderful courtyard garden.

The second occasion we met was at The Glorious Art House. They also have a lovely courtyard garden so we were able to sit out here also. Typically the weather was wonderful last weekend. It’s always the case when I am inside the theatre!

I met up with my friend Cat, her 18 month old daughter Florence and Purdy the dog for lunch at Otterton Mill on Tuesday. It was a beautiful, hot and sunny day so we were able to sit and have lunch outside. Dining alfresco in the summer months is a must as far as I am concerned and the weather certainly was hot enough. We took a seat in the courtyard under the shade of trees that line the mill’s stream. After careful consideration I decided on a savoury tea. I had been thinking about a traditional cream tea all morning but once seeing the menu I changed my mind. The savoury tea consisted of one homemade cheese scone, a chunk of cheddar cheese and some rather delicious chutney. A pot of tea is served alongside. I think I made the right choice. I forgot how much I love cheese scones. Especially freshly baked scones that are still slightly warm… so tasty! The savoury tea was a snip at £4.95 and was enough as a light lunch.

After lunch we took a little walk in the sunshine along the River Otter towards Budleigh Salterton. This is one of my all time favourite walks and I never get bored of it. The scenery is so beautiful and you see so much wildlife. There are always dragonflies, butterflies and fish in the river and occasionally kingfishers and woodpeckers. I love it!

We stopped for a while so Flo could dip her toes in the river and do a spot of paddling. Purdy the chocolate lab also had a little swim!

It was the perfect way to spend a hot afternoon.

On Thursday I popped along to Quicke’s farm for a spot of cheese making. I had such a wonderful time and found the whole process very therapeutic. It has made me love Quicke’s cheese even more now I have seen the love and care that goes into making it. Here are a few pictures with a full post to follow in the next week or so.

My sister, Estella, was in town on Thursday so naturally I cooked dinner for us. We were able to enjoy drinks and nibbles in the garden which was lovely. I love eating outside. It makes everything taste so much better.

I had made some delicious bruschetta for our starter. Keeping the theme cheesey after my morning at Quickes. I decided on garlic mushroom with Quicke’s Devon Red and broad bean, pea and Quicke’s goats cheese. Absolutely perfect with a cool glass of Camel Valley Bacchus dry white wine.

We moved inside for our main course. I prepared lots of vegetables and salad items from my Veg In A Box. We had roasted carrot and beetroot salad with feta cheese and homemade herb pesto smothered new potatoes. A wonderfully summery meal which was perfect for a warm evening.

I hope you enjoyed reading about my week. I look forward to sharing more with you next week. Look out for more posts on my trip to Cornwall too. In the mean time you can always keep up to date on my world on Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter.

See you all next week!
