The Hour Glass inn in Exeter is my absolute all time favourite. I can honestly say that I have never had a bad meal there. They always deliver top quality food that is locally sourced where possible. They have a great selection of wines and spirits and there is normally three or four ales on draft.
Our table was downstairs. We hadn’t been seated down there for a long while but I really enjoyed the ambiance.
We nibbled on some wonderful homemade bread and olive oil while we decided on our menu choices. I decided on a starter as my main course. It was chargrilled leeks with a boiled egg and romesco sauce. I had the heritage tomato salad on the side. Steve had a Sicilian fish stew and Alex had ham hock with mashed potatoes and parsley sauce. We all agreed that our dishes were delicious. One of the highlights of my meal was the tomato salad. It was presented simply with a little basil, salt and pepper and it was totally divine. I can honestly say that if I had just had that as my main meal I would have been more than happy. Truely delicious!
Steve decided on the cheese plate to follow. Alex had a malted chocolate brownie with a banana fritter and peanut butter ice cream. I opted for a cup of tea. I love my tea…!
Once again, Steve and Alex gave their dishes a big thumbs up.
If you have never been to the Hour Glass I would urge you to go. It really is in my opinion the best dining experience. I just love the quirky decor and the food never fails to impress.
