I travelled to Ashburton to have afternoon tea with my lovely friend Chloe on Sunday and to have a little play with her new kittens. Her cat Mimble had four adorable kittens about three weeks ago and I had been itching to see them. I had said before they were born that I was eager to have one and seeing them in the flesh just made my heart melt. They were so tiny still with their little floppy ears and weak, wobbly legs!
Those tiny little feet!!! Eeek!! I think the little tabby girl in the top photo will be finding a home here in Exeter! She will be ready at the beginning of August! Can’t wait!
I almost forgot our lovely moist lemon iced buns that Chloe made! Divine..
Sunday night saw Steve and I visit the Old Firehouse Pub for one of their infamous pizzas. I have had many before.. Lots of delish flavours. This time we plumped for ‘The Vegetarian’ which had peppers, mushrooms mozerella. Very tasty indeed. They are reasonably priced and one pizza is plenty enough for a hungry couple.
My slight obsession with cookbooks was fed again this week with a copy of Rachel Roddy’s book Five Quarters. I was so excited for it to arrive! As soon as I had the opportunity I sat down on the sofa with a cuppa and began reading Rachel’s story of how she ended up living in Rome and how the area of Testaccio influenced her recipes. I can’t wait to start making some of the delicious dishes. It makes me hungry thinking about it! ( P.s if anyone has any fab cookbook recommendations please let me know in the comments section. Thank you! )
My gorgeous cat Miss Marple has been venturing out in the garden whilst Steve and I have been having our Al fresco lunches in the courtyard. The weather has been so good and Miss Marple loves the sunshine. It’s such a pleasure to be able to eat outside and enjoy a few moments of sunshine in our lunch breaks.
Just experienced Booja-Booja‘s ice cream substitute on a recommendation from a friend. I had tried and loved their gorgeous chocolate truffles before but never the ‘ice cream’. It was DIVINE.. It is completely dairy free and organic. It boasts just five ingredients in this particular flavour ( coconut hullabaloo )..water, agave syrup, coconut milk, cashew nuts and desiccated coconut and that is it!! I don’t know how they do it.. It was so creamy and the flavour was a subtle coconut which is great. Some coconut flavour things scream synthetic.. This was just… Perfect! I am completely blown away by this product. I need more of this iced goodness in my life!! I need to hunt out other flavours and stockists! I got this particular mini pot at The Real Food Store on Paris Street in Exeter. What a wonderful find.. Thanks Emma ( Elliot ) x
We have had wonderful weather here this week in exeter. I hope it continues as the school holidays are approaching which means that I break up from ballet and get a few weeks of summer evenings to do nice things and cook and eat lovely food. I can’t wait to share it all with you.
Have a wonderful week everybody.
Love Tara x
